Members of Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) on Tuesday held a peaceful protest on the streets of Abuja in continuation of their demand for the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
The Islamic group, marching in their numbers said they were “ready to die for El-Zakzaky”, their leader who has been in detention along with his wife, Zeenatuddeen since December 2015.
The Shi’ites travails started after his members clashed with the military in Zaria in 2015.
Zakzaky is currently facing trial over allegations of unlawful assembly, disruption of public peace and culpable homicide filed against him by Kaduna State government.
The Federal Government has refused to release him despite several court rulings granting him bail.
