Nigeria: Govt Launches Livestock Transport By Train

The Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agriculture (NIRSAL) has flagged-off the farm to market scheme of transporting livestock from Gusau, Zamfara State to Lagos by train.

                   

The scheme is a pilot phase for the new modern transportation system of livestock and vegetables from northern part of the country to the southern part tagged Farm to Market.

NIRSAL values the total live animal trade between the North and South at N850 ($2.7Billion) - 950 billion naira.

The North to South movement of cattle by rail which has formally commenced today with the first fifteen (15) wagons of 500 cattle which left Gusau, Zamfara State expected to arrive Oko-Oba in Lagos in two days time.
